Italian naval frigate Carlo Margottini made a brief stopover in Kuwait last week as part of a goodwill visit to the country and to showcase superior Italian naval technology to their Kuwaiti counterparts.
Briefing the media on the visit Italian Deputy Minister of Defense Rafael Fulby, along with Deputy Secretary General of the Italian Ministry of Defense Admiral Dario Giacomin, praised the excellent relations between the two countries while emphasizing Italy’s commitment to Kuwait’s security and stability.
The Deputy Minister disclosed that the friendly visit was part of a routine exchange of visits and no agreements were being signed. The visit was aimed at further strengthening the excellent military and political cooperation between the two nations.
Carlo Margottini is a new generation technologically advanced frigate and its visit to Kuwait came as part of its visit to other Gulf ports.
Speaking to the media, Kuwaiti Naval Forces Major-General Khaled Al-Kandari remarked that Italian warships were considered one of the best warships in technological advancements and the Italian frigate’s visit to Kuwait came as part of the close cooperation between navies of the two countries.
He noted that Kuwaiti officers and other personnel receive training in Italy, some of whom had already graduated from Italian maritime institutes.
To mark the occasion of the visit a reception was held onboard and was attended by a cross-section of guests, including Kuwait navy officials and Italian ambassador H.E. Giuseppe Scognamiglio, and the Italian defense attaché in Kuwait.
